An Angel can Bleed

“It’s a trap,” I whispered to Clay, who gritted his teeth.

But then, this soon became obvious as Matthias walked out from behind one of the colossal pillars, still clapping. I couldn’t help but inwardly shudder at the sight, knowing he was the one responsible for it all. Well, him and his witch, I thought, wrinkling my nose and wondering where she was.

As for Matthias, well, he stood tall and proud, with that air of arrogance to him that spoke of power. He wore a dark red, long-sleeved tunic style jacket that had a wide V shaped panel down the front of black metal. I suppose this acted as some protection across his chest, and also held numerous belts and straps across his muscles.

His torso tapered down at the waist thanks to the thick belts he wore that held weapons, one of which that looked like a spearhead that extended from thick rings and plates of silver. Underneath the long tunic jacket that reached his knees, were a pair of thick, dark trousers and boots that were plated up to his knees.

I followed the lines of thick leather straps covering his torso that led to a large shoulder piece. It was a silver-coloured leather armour that looked inscribed with demonic symbols and runes. Attached to this were armoured sections running down the full length of his arm until they met with a black gauntlet-covered hand. And well, there was one thing for certain, he looked ready for war.

Attached to this strange-coloured leather armour was a hood, that cast parts of his face in an eerie shadow, although I could see more of his features this time. A face that looked aged, not just with time, but through the knowledge of being an obvious outcast from his father. His greyish beard was trimmed to a point, and speckled with black. He had a prominent nose, high cheekbones and dark eyes that were hooded under a prominent brow. It gave him the appearance of a knowing look, as if he had delved into all of your secrets and could read your mind.

“I must say, I was sceptical when Dalene told me she could get you back to the Tree of Souls, but here you are, just like she promised. But then again, Lucius is nothing if not predictable.” I sneered at him as he approached and said,

“Ah, and let me guess, this is the part in the movie where you talk smack about my boyfriend, tell us your evil plan and then we fight, get away, and then stop your psycho ass at the end with minutes to spare… that sound about right?” I nudged Clay who had his massive arms folded and with a nod, said,

“Yeah, sounds right to me, Princess.”

Matthias obviously didn’t take too kindly to my smart mouth as he scowled back at me, as if he was a busted vein away from possessing the power to drill a hole in my head. But then, I was
